If you are new to summer swim league or have never seen what makes a swim meet happen, it is important to know that swim meets can't happen without parent volunteers. A typical swim meet for Dickinson runs from 6:30am until 1pm. Swimmer go in the water at 8am.
Volunteer Positions for typical home meet: Clerk of Course - works with coaches to put swimmers into their correct events. Maintains the official roster of swimmers and keeps it updated. Runs the computer the day of the meet to put swimmers in their correct lanes and heats. Coordinates entries with the opposing teams Clerk of Course and works with that Clerk of Course on the day of the meet. Clerk assistant - works with the Clerk of Course and is very instrumental in working with coaches to put swimmers into the correct events. Assembles relay teams and reassembles teams when swimmers leave before the meet is over. Scorer - works with a scorer from the other team to enter swimmer times into the computer. Swimteam Representative - communicates between the teams, the team parents and swimmers and the officials. Head Official - responsible for keeping the meet fair and for running the meet. Starter - Responsible for assuring the swimmers a good start and inspecting starting blocks. Turn Judge - watches the swimmers on the turns and insures that turns are performed properly. Lane Judge - watches swimmers in the lanes for proper strokes. Runner - carries DQ slips and lane cards/sheets to officials and clerk of course Two people for Ready Area - Gets the swimmers to the correct lanes Ribbon writer - puts labels on ribbons for swimmers Timers Our pool has 6 lanes and we have to have two home team timers per lane 12 Timers Concessions Stand: One person to sell Two people to prepare One person to cook hot dogs and hamburgers on the pit Tent Parents: One parent per age group - makes sure that the swimmers in their group make it to the ready area. |
